Relevant topics are:

Strategic alliances and innovations
How can strategic alliances and B2B relationships spur innovations? Research questions include: (i) efficient contracting strategies for innovative projects, (ii) identification of performance implications of contracting strategies, and (iii) monitoring and relationship management during cooperation.

Business Process Management and Digitalization
We are interested in the widespread growth of digital technologies like smartphones, tablets, internet of things, robotic process automation, app-platforms, and how these technologies enables competent users to innovate business processes.

Researching issues pertaining to customers’ perception of firms’ innovativeness is relevant and interesting in service innovation research.

Business models in an international context
Research topic can include but are not limited to i) business model innovation at the base of the pyramid in developing countries,  ii) understanding internationalization strategies of digital / e-commerce ventures, iii) the intersection between business models, entrepreneurship and internationalization.

Strategy
We are interested in understanding the origins of performance differences between firms and industries, and the implications of this for decision-makers. Within this wider research agenda, we put particular emphasis on strategy and the business cycle, strategic human capital, the theory of the firm, and entrepreneurship.

Team and cooperation research
What makes teams work more effectively and how do relationships within teams form and develop over time? In particular, how do team start-ups and dynamics influence team performance?

Nudging: Long-term thinking and decisions involving time
“Everyone” agrees that it is wise to think long-term, but we often choose the short-term option nonetheless? With experiments as method, we study what determines the decisions people make, and what can be done to “nudge” people to think long-term.

The PhD Programme

The PhD Programme at NHH is a four-year fully-funded programme, which combines an intensive course component with active research and teaching/work experience, preparing the school’s graduates for competitive careers at national and international academic institutions and industry.

PhD Research Scholars receive their own office space within their department and enjoy a highly stimulating and rewarding research environment. The PhD Research Scholars receive feedback on their work through close interaction with their supervisor/s, and faculty during regular seminars.

PhD Research Scholars are required to combine their studies and research with 25% work as a teaching and/or research assistant during their employment period.

Preference will be given to qualified applicants with research proposals that fit best with the research interests of the Department of Strategy and Management. Preference will also be given to female applicants in the event of equivalent qualifications.

The annual salary for the PhD Research Scholar position is currently 435 100 NOK gross (equivalent to approximately € ۴۸ ۰۰۰ or USD 50 500). This salary ensures a fair standard of living in Norway, and is subject to Norwegian taxes and benefits, including health care provision.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the PhD Programme. It is necessary that academic and English language criteria are met. The Department of Strategy and Management does not require GMAT/GRE or TOEFL/IELTS tests to apply.

Applicants for the PhD Research Scholar position do not need to apply separately for admission to the PhD programme.
