Postdoctoral Researcher or Doctoral Student in Information Systems Science

Professor Harri Oinas-Kukkonen is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher or a Doctoral Student to study persuasive systems design and behavior change support systems in the context of occupational health. The key research theme is to investigate the role of mobile persuasive technology to influence micro-entrepreneurs’ health through technological interventions in Strategic Research Council project known as Promo@Work. The position belongs to the Oulu Advanced Research on Service and Information Systems (OASIS) research unit.

Job Description

The main research themes in the OASIS research group are:

  • User behaviors and humanized information technologies
  • Persuasive systems design: studying software features and strategies which influence user behaviors
  • Behavior change support systems: studying user experiences and outcomes of technological interventions which support users to achieve their goals in the areas of health, sustainability, green IS/IT and other important domains

The research in the OASIS group has strong commitment to perform cutting edge research that is publishable in top tier scientific journals in information systems science, human-computer interaction, health informatics and other relevant fields. In evaluating the applicants, potential to publish research in these premier scientific forums is emphasized. Hence, the candidate is expected to have a strong commitment for publishing.

More specifically:

(a) As Postdoctoral Researcher you will carry out advanced project research work in a world class research team at the Oulu Advanced Research on Service and Information Systems (OASIS) research unit under the supervision of Professor Harri Oinas-Kukkonen, publish research results in most esteemed international fora and co-supervise master theses. In the beginning, postdoctoral researcher is offered fixed term position for 2 years.

(b) As Doctoral Student you will carry out project research work in a world class research team at the Oulu Advanced Research on Service and Information Systems (OASIS) research unit under the supervision of Professor Harri Oinas-Kukkonen, publish research results in the most esteemed international fora, attend doctoral courses and seek to complete your doctoral thesis within 4 years from the start. Requirements

(a) Postdoctoral Researcher: We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated person to work seamlessly towards the scientific goals of the research unit and its projects. A qualified candidate holds doctoral degree in information systems science or related field. A good applicant has a proven record of high quality scientific research and publications, preferably in one of the main themes listed above. The future research to be performed by the candidate must fit with the main themes. A successful candidate is capable to work both independently and in a team. The post-doctoral researcher participates actively in performing research and guiding doctoral students within the group. Knowledge in information systems theories and persuasive technology is required. Capacity to speak Finnish will be appreciated.

(b) Doctoral Student: We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated person to work seamlessly towards the scientific goals of the research unit and its projects. A qualified candidate holds MSc degree in information systems science or related field. A good applicant has a proven record of high quality scientific research and publications, preferably in one of the main themes listed above. The future research to be performed by the candidate must fit with the main themes. The candidate should be able to develop and build (Android/IOS) mobile applications. Previous experience and knowledge on persuasive technology as well as mastering of quantitative research methods are highly appreciated.

* Deep general understanding about research methodologies

* Capacity to speak Finnish

* Excellent writing and fluency in English

Salary

(a) Postdoctoral researcher: Depending on personal achievement and performance, the salary of the Postdoctoral researcher will be set at levels 5–۶ of the national salary scale for the teaching and research staff of Finnish universities (€ ۲۹۷۹ – € ۴۰۷۹ gross).

(b) Doctoral student: Depending on personal achievement and performance, the salary of Doctoral studentwill be set at levels 2–۴ of the national salary scale for the teaching and research staff of Finnish universities (€ ۲۱۸۶ – € ۳۰۲۲ gross). At this stage the position will be for 2 years. Depending on his/her qualifications, the candidate is expected to finish his/her PhD in a maximum of 4 years.
