Surface Science Group (www.tut.fi/surfsci) has an opening for a Doctoral Student. The doctoral project will focus on optimizing charge transfer processes for solar fuel production using semiconductor materials by employing photoelectron spectroscopy, spectromicroscopy, scanning probe techniques and electrochemical methods. An essential part of the doctoral research will be to obtain in-depth understanding of the technologically critical surface phenomena at a molecular level. Some of these surface and interface mediated molecular processes can only be studied by using synchrotron radiation based methods, of which Surface Science Group has years of experience. The Doctoral Student is expected to visit Synchrotron Radiation Centers such as MAX IV Laboratory in Sweden (https://www.maxiv.lu.se/) and SSRL in USA (http://www-ssrl.slac.stanford.edu/) as a member of our research team.

The tasks of the Doctoral Student will comprise designing of the experiments, sample preparation and various sample treatments, data acquisition and theoretical analysis, and dissemination of the results in scientific peer-reviewed journals, international conferences and doctoral network events.

The tasks of all doctoral students will also include teaching duties that amount to approximately 5% of their annual working hours, unless there are justified reasons to the contrary.
