The groups of Prof. Julia Fritz-Steuber (Microbiology) and Jun.-Prof. Dr. Jana Seifert (Feed-Gut Microbiota Interaction) at the University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart) are offering two PhD positions for three years in the field of microbiology

The positions are in the framework of our collaborative research project supported by the German Science Foundation (DFG) entitled “Interplay between fermentative and respiratory energy conservation in Prevotella sp.” (FR 1321/7-1 and SE 2059/3-1). The projects aim to deeply characterise Prevotella sp., which is an anaerobic bacterium living in the gastrointestinal tract of animals and humans. A focus is on the metabolic pathways of this important inhabitant of the rumen. Major tasks are the biochemical and proteomic analyses of cells living under different cultivation conditions and the purification and characterisation of specific enzymes. In addition, in vitro analyses will be performed to study the factors influencing the growth and activity of Prevotella sp. in the rumen.
