The Division of Economics at the Department of Management and Engineering has about 30 employees and belongs to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The dominant research profile today at the Division of Economics is behavioral and experimental economics. The division also conducts research in labor economics, economics of discrimination, economic history, energy economics, health economics, institutional economics, international trade, macroeconomics, environmental economics, neuroeconomics, political economy, applied financial economics, transport economics, and development economics.

PhD student in Economics, licentiate degree
formally based at the Department of Management and Engineering (IEI).

Duties
As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time. The specific thesis projects will be determined in consultation with the supervisors.

Qualifications
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.

Admission to postgraduate studies in economics requires both general entry requirements and specific entry requirements.

General entry requirements are fulfilled if an applicant has successfully graduated at an advanced level, or completed course requirements of at least 240 credits, including at least 60 credits at an advanced level, or in others ways attained the required relevant knowledge (within the country of residence or abroad).

Specific entry requirement are fulfilled if an applicant has competed course requirement of 90 credits with relevance to the position and the research environment.

The basis for selection of qualified applicants to the postgraduate studies in economics is the ability to successfully complete such training.

Selection is made on the basis of documented and by the applicant submitted material, such as independent work, course grades, and certificates of professional work experience. In addition, interviews with the applicants will also be used in the selection process. During the selection, the following factors will be considered:

– student achievements that show creativity, maturity, and the ability of making independent judgments and doing critical analyses,

– particular knowledge and experience, such as professional work skills, that may be relevant for carrying out postgraduate education,

– particular knowledge and experience in research fields in which the Division of Economics at Linköping University is active.

Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years´ full time research training, for licentiate degree two years.

The salary for PhD students is based on the department’s salary scale.
