Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees due to retirement among our current staff and an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!

The Department of Thematic Studies was the first in Sweden to offer an academic setting for thematically organised, interdisciplinary, socially relevant research. We combine strong research with undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and courses, often in collaboration with actors outside the university. Our point of departure is a critical, reflective approach, and we seek to develop new ways of understanding established social phenomena, in order to benefit both scientific and social development.

LINKÖPING UNIVERSITY
Hereby advertises a position as

PhD student in Environmental Science
formally based at Department of Thematic Studies

Duties
This PhD student position is a part of the project Climate change induced regime shifts in Northern lake ecosystems”, som bedrivs vid universiteten i Umeå och Linköping. The project is a collaboration between many researchers to study how climate change will affect lake ecosystems and their greenhouse gas and carbon balances.

The successful applicant is expected to carry out research in an important work package on fluxes of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere from different lake types in different climate zones. The variability in space and time, and how fluxes can be linked to relevant environmental variables is of particular interest. The team will have access to a unique mix of new and established methods.

The work requires responsibility for research including planning, field work for measurements over time in different lakes, and analyses of samples and data. The work also includes to write scientific publications in English together with team members, and to contribute in other ways to a positive, stimulating, creative and successful research environment.

A PhD student will essentially focus on the research education. The position may also involve teaching, separate research, and administration, but during no more than 20% of the total time.

– Practical measurements of relevance and interest for development of measurement methods or sampling equipment.
– Work with large amounts of data including calculations, statistics, and modeling of relevance for the project. (Please list computer software used and being well understood.)
– Cycling and fluxes of greenhouse gases or carbon compounds in nature and especially in lakes.
– Field studies or experiments regarding formation, oxidation or fluxes of methane.

A driver’s license valid in Sweden, as well as interest and capacity to perform field work throughout the employment time will be necessary to perform the work.

Appointment time
