The Electronic Circuit Design unit at Aalto University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher for research in millimeter-wave integrated circuits
(IC) and systems. The emerging field of MMICs is developing rapidly, due to developments in IC technology, creating and opening up very many new possibilities in the development of 5G broadband communication, including wireless sensors and mm-radars for various commercial, industrial, medical, security and also current environmental applications.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Participation in state of the art level, industry driven MMICs research projects for applications in e.g. 5G broadband communication, wireless sensors, mm-radars (commercial, industrial, medical, security, environmental).
The Postdoc is expected to conduct high quality research, to initiate and propose research ideas and to be an active member of the department by taking part in project management duties, also guiding M.Sc. and doctoral students. Teaching responsibilities are included according to interests and experience.
This postdoctoral position will offer multidisciplinary cooperation with several institutions and companies. Our research is closely tied to circuit design challenges in the IC industry, to which we provide solutions in context of industry-funded design projects. We collaborate with the leading research institutions in the field: Berkeley Wireless Research Center, Caltech, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (California), ESA and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
At the Department, this postdoc will interdisciplinarily be supportive of and benefit from many research groups and professors (Kari Halonen, Jussi Ryynänen, Ville Viikari, Antti Räisänen and Sergei Tretyakov).
REQUIREMENTS
The candidate should be an expert on designing millimeterwave integrated circuits with semiconductor technologies like CMOS, SiGe, GaAs and InPh for millimeter-wave or terahertz frequencies and have a doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering.
Your background can be in any field of integrated circuit design, but we expect you to be open-minded and willing to learn more. In this position you need to have strong hands-on experience in integrated circuit design and tools (simulations, layout, measurements and unix operating system working environment). Please, document these activities in your application. You will also benefit from good skills in signal processing, control theory and electromagnetics.
Experience and responsibilities in project coordination, good interpersonal skills and publications on IEEE forums (conferences and journals/transactions) are valued. Acquired research funding and participation in writing the funding applications are regarded as merits.
RESEARCH GROUP
The Electronic Circuit Design (ECD) unit is recognized as one of the best in Europe. We have carried out research of RF, analog and digital integrated circuits for decades and the unit has a strong network of collaborators and funding. The Electronic Circuit Design group has two full professors (Jussi Ryynänen, Kari Halonen), 3 senior researchers and about 20 doctoral candidates and research assistants working in world class research facilities. Researchers of the unit have received several awards in highly recognized international conferences. More information about the ECD unit’s research. The ECD unit is part of the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering at the School of Electrical Engineering at Aalto University, Finland.
SALARY AND CONTRACT TERMS
The position will be initially filled for 2 years, with a possible extension up to 3 years. The expected starting salary for a Postdoctoral Researcher is 3500–۳۸۰۰ €/month, depending on experience and qualifications. The salary will increase according to responsibilities and performance over time. The contract includes occupational health benefits. Finland has a comprehensive social security system.
The preferable starting time is the autumn term (negotiable).
