Job description
The position is linked to the research project “Smart Mobility Suburbs (SMS)”, funded by the Norwegian Research Council. The PhD fellow will be part of a consortium of researchers at the Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research, the Institute for Transport Economics and the Department of Sociology and Human Geography (project leader is at this department). Within this research project, the position will mainly be related to the work package 1. The main objective is to develop a better understanding of residential choices and travel practices, based on fieldwork and qualitative interviews with persons living in suburban “minicities” (or suburban towns) in Greater Oslo. Requirements
Applicants must have a master’s degree/second-level degree (120 ECTS) in Human Geography or equivalent, as well as documented skills in qualitative data collection and analysis. The master’s thesis must have been submitted before the application deadline. A prerequisite for taking up the position is the successful completion of a master’s degree. The successful applicant must be able to carry out interviews and workshops in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language. Residence in the Oslo‐vicinity is expected.
The position requires that the person who is hired participates in the Faculty of Social Sciences’ organised research education programme (PhD programme) and that the work results in a doctorate in Human Geography. The person who is hired will automatically be admitted to the PhD programme.
The hiring process will include an interview. In addition to an overall evaluation of the applicant’s grades, particular emphasis will be placed on the quality of the project proposal and the master’s thesis.
