The research group currently consists of approximately 25 persons including senior researchers, PhD students, technician and professors. http://www.ltu.se/research/subjects/Konstruktionsteknik
Structural Engineering includes design, construction, condition assessment, maintenance, repair and strengthening of structures with focus on concrete, its properties and interaction with other materials.
The ClayCem project aims to develop a new sustainable (possibly recyclable) cementitious material suitable for structural concrete. The ultimate CO2 footprint will be at least 50% lower in comparison with Portland cement concrete. ClayCem will be based on natural clay minerals commonly occurring in Sweden which will be activated by a novel combination of mechano-chemical processes DUTIES As a PhD student you will be trained in scientific thinking and writing. The work as a PhD student is problem focused. You will develop skills in identifying, define, formulate and solve problems of both practical as well as theoretical nature. You will also develop your skills to work with complex theoretical and analytical questions and to integrate these in to current practices. The PhD studies are 4 year, fulltime. Administration and/or lecturing 20% may be added.
A suitable background for the position is a master in civil engineering, chemistry, material science or equivalent. Experience in concrete technology, experimental techniques including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), XRD, TG, previous experience with sensors for concrete will be an asset. It is required that the applicant speaks, reads and writes English relatively unhindered.
