The number of people with chronic diseases and disabilities is rising at an astonishing rate. To meet their needs, a patient-centred approach by which professionals, patients, and informal caregivers co-createcare delivery is needed. The effectiveness of various patient-centred solutions on experiences and outcomes, the conditions under which they succeed, and the groups for whom such approaches are suitable are all unclear. The serious gaps in understanding and improving outcomes in care lend urgency to the examination of various patient-centred solutions in and understanding of their measurement and effectiveness.

As a PhD you will mainly perform quantitative research in several Dutch settings aiming to become more patient centered. You will start by investigating patient centered care within an integrated primary care project aiming to improve care for co/multi morbidity patients. A longitudinal study design will be used in which experiences with care and outcomes among patients and professionals are compared with care as usual. In addition, you will investigate patient centered care in an innovative large-scale organization aiming to improve patient centered care for people with intellectual disabilities.

As a PhD student you are part of a research team. You will be guided by Prof.dr. Anna Petra Nieboer and dr. Jane Murray Cramm within the research group Socio-Medical Sciences. In addition, you will be involved in teaching activities within the bachelor Health Sciences and in the master Healthcare Management, specifically the course Patient Centered Care Delivery.
